The Savage Lands

Nittasu (orcish for Fertile Heart) is a vast area of diverse ecologies. The hundred tribes make up the majority of inhabitants of what the church calls The Savage Lands, though there are a few human and half elven homesteader settlements. Most of these homesteaders are tolerated, so long as they respect the ways of the local tribes. The eastern side of the plains tends to be rockier, with river canyons and massive plateaus. Spotted scrub forests eventually give way to the scar desert. The largest of the Eastern tribes is the Dakuua, a violent, war oriented people who subsist mostly from what they take from other tribes. The central plains are graceful and green. Called the Emerald sea, this rolling swath of grassland is home to numerous herd animals and few very dangerous predators. Most of the Hundred tribes dwell here, following the herds and living off the land. The most prominent tribe of the central plains is the Wannua, a peaceful shamanistic group that uses violence only in defense. The Emerald sea slowly gives way to a sparsely wooded flatland called Lakadi Tau. This young forest is home to a variety of smaller tribes and homesteaders, the most notable being the Beko Kira (People of the sea). The Beko Kiro are an interesting group, choosing to live from the bounty of the Barren sea rather than from the land. Most disturbing to the other tribes, however, is that fact that the Beko Kiro have converted to the Church of the Radiant Host, and now send out the faithful to preach to the rest of orcdom. Few of these missionaries have returned alive. Much talk has circulated Nittasu recently, talk about whether to allow the Beko Kiro to survive or whether a tribal union should finally be called to wipe this dangerous new problem from the Fertile Heart forever.

The Ruins of Etheriaseu
Throughout the Savage Lands are ancient ruins from a time before recorded history. The orcs call these the ruins of Etheriaseu. They say that it was a place of great magic and power, when all peoples were one race and lived in the company of the Great Dragons. The elves agree with this, though they are not so quick to suggest it was a place of serenity. Humans also recognize Etheriaseu, though according to the church,it was the place where the first children of Light and Shadow lived, and so was essentially home to angels and demons in their purest form. Whatever the truth, travelers have returned from these ruins insist that they are terrifying and haunted. Many expeditions sent to investigate the ruins have not returned, and those that do are often scarred from the experience. A few brave souls have gone into one or more the ruins and have emerged with incredible artifacts of power. One such hero is Toqalin Windblade. His axe, which rumor says can ignite into fire at his command, is one of the precious ancient relics hidden in these archiac and dangerous ruins.
